Senior Home Repair

ESAC offers practical home repair help to eligible elderly homeowners. Typically, we can help with minor repairs and emergency repairs. When our Repair Specialist fixes a rickety porch or stairs for an elderly client, for example, they are doing more than improving a building. They are helping to build stronger neighborhoods and communities by helping residents live safely and independently in their own homes, for as long as they desire.

If a homeowner is in need of more extensive repairs, ESAC will guide them through the city’s application process for home rehabilitation projects. Our services are provided free to eligible homeowners, while others may be required to make a small contribution to the cost of the work.

This service is available to senior homeowners in Mattapan, Hyde Park, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, or Allston/Brighton.

Falls Prevention

In addition to handling minor repairs, our program features installation of safety features like grab bars and railings, handheld shower sprayers, as well as steps and floor repairs for eligible elderly homeowners with mobility problems. So, if a senior homeowner identifies with any of these statements, then we may be able to help:

  • Difficulty walking, getting around the home, or getting in and out of the home

  • Afraid of falling in the home

  • Recovering from a fall

Our goal is to protect the health and safety of our elderly clients, while helping them maintain and improve their quality of life.

Program Eligibility and How to Sign Up

To be eligible for services, a homeowner must:

  • Homeowners only (1-4 family)

  • Homeowner must reside in home

  • Age 62 or over (No age requirement if on Disability, but must provide proof of such)

  • Must have owned home for 10 years

  • Must be 80% or less of Boston's Income Eligibility if multi-family 50% of residents must be low or moderate income

  • Current on property taxes

  • Current with Boston Water and Sewer
