ELA Teacher

Position: VACANT – 2 Positions

Summary: Provide adult basic education, GED/HiSet preparation to high school and college-aged students.

Schedule: 24 hours/week: 12 hours teaching, 12 hours prep/meeting time; Monday – Thursday – 8:00am – 2:00pm

Location: Roxbury, MA

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years teaching experience in K-12 and/or adult education. Understanding and experience in implementation in the Common Core/CCRS Standards is required for curriculum development in content-areas in English language arts – history/social studies and/or science.

  • Understanding of urban education is required. Must have high respect for our student population and their needs.

  • Experienced in differentiating and contextualizing instruction. Familiarity with Universal Design and/or instruction for persons with learning disabilities.

  • Some flexibility of hours

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide instruction in ELA Reading & Writing through the content area of: Social Studies and Science. (Grade level – 6.0 – 8.9 and 9.0 – 12.9+)

  • Devise classroom and program curriculum to fit student needs

  • Conduct routine student assessment. Monitor, collect, and analyze data on student performance. Report student progress in monthly progress notes.

  • Submit daily attendance records. Monitor patterns of absenteeism and conduct student follow-up.

  • Devise academic goals with students at the beginning of each term and conduct monthly follow-up

  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to create a safe and productive space for learning.

  • Submit weekly lesson plans outlining instructional methods, accommodations, and assessment

  • Participate in collaborative planning with other instructors on program-wide curriculum to ensure alignment with OCTAE’s College and Career Readiness Standards.

  • Participate in weekly case management meetings and assist students in accessing academic and case management services.

  • Participate in program/staff development meetings

  • Maintain professional conduct including: respect for the student body, cultural sensitivity, classroom and instructional organization, punctuality, and perform according to the expectations/policies associated with employment of the Ecumenical Social Action Committee, Inc. (ESAC) and GED Plus program.
