A Mural Project Location: At the Peace Garden on Washington St. corner with School St. at Egleston Sq. Jamaica Plain. Characteristics: Six small murals for a total of 8' by 60', each mural is 8' by 10'. Acrylic on plywood panels attached to the back Peace Garden wall. Unveiled: September 25, 2002. Designed and painted by talented young artists from the Boston area under the direction of Jamaica Plain artist Roberto Chao, the project took six months to complete. The participants worked twice a week and for 3 to 4 hours each time at the Chao's studio. They received a hourly stipen for their work. The uplifting and stylish mural revives a universal theme of peace and creativity. The mural pays homage to individuals and communities who are working to build peace on our planet. Viewing the panels from the left to the right the mural recreates a vision of humanity's vibrant search for utopia.
